Food Sensitivity

Food sensitivity or intolerance is a common complaint experienced by some dogs. Symptoms may include nasal congestion, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, anxiousness or intolerance of other dogs.

With homeopathy, we see food intolerances as an imbalance of the self healing mechanism and when taken into account with all other physical and emotional symptoms, a complete picture can be considered to find the deeper, underlying malfunction which is causing the imbalance.

Homeopathy can be used to address acute symptoms as they occur, with a first aid kit, you can treat your dogs at home.  For chronic symptoms, those lasting for longer than 3 months, it is advisable to seek the help of a qualified homeopathic vet to help clear the underlying causes of the symptoms being experienced.

As with all natural healing systems, understanding the nutritional requirements of your dog is paramount to their health and wellbeing.

Acute remedies for first aid treatment:

Nux vomica: Digestive complaints better for vomiting, feeling very chilly, irritable and over sensitive. A great remedy for over eating, indiscretional eating and food bolters.

Carbo veg: digestive sluggishness, bloating, dehydration.  Better for cool air and burping.

Ipecac: violent nausea, vomiting brings no relief, choking, gagging, better for open air.

Colocynth: severe cramping pains, stabbing pains, gurgling tummy, want to be left alone.

Lycopodium: Sensitive or fussy eaters, for dogs who appear aggressive but really are afraid themselves.
